nice. from the extreme weather center, check it out. early season snow storm for northern california. this is good news. many skiers and snowboarders taking advantage of the fresh powder hitting the slopes just about 80 miles north of sacramento. a welcome sight for many of the resorts as thanksgiving approaches. maria molina is in the fox weather center with the forecast. >> that's right. we're talking about some snowfall across california, welcome news for anyone trying to do any skiing coming up for the thanksgiving holiday. but not good news for any travel efforts. i want to start out with an area of low pressure that we've been talking about a lot that was going to develop off the southeast coast here over the weekend. it is developing. we have some areas of showers and storms just off the coast of the carolinas. talk about this storm possibly becoming a nor'easter and impacting travel next week. the good news is right now the storm system does appear to remain offshore over the next couple of days. we don't think it will be causing too many issues as far as travel in the northe

at the two storms. this first one will continue to go across the californias, we move through the afternoon. we are going to see a bit of a break, maybe a bit of sun and then for the second half this system will start to pull in. let me show you what i'm talking about. scattered shower this morning. expect the slick roads, by noontime we have mainly cloud conditions but we are mainly dry. we have the break, we have rain and snow at the sierra but the elevation very high with the snow above 7,000 feet. by sunset, 5:00 we have the rain pulling in once again. this is the second system moving in to the north bay. if you have evening plans it's going to be wet. over the central bay by 7:00 and in to the south bay by 10. in the overnight it starts to push out. tomorrow morning, sunday 8:00. mainly dry and sunday will be cooler than today but we will be again mainly dry for sunday. the winds right now 14 miles an hour in oakland. 16 in san jose. temperatures, mild. relatively speaking. we are have upper 50s, low 60s outside outside the door right now. 60 degrees for mountain view. 57 santa rose

into the rockies across british columbia, even down there towards california. but if you're driving across this area, even towards denver, do slow down. some of the white stuff will be coming out of the skies across much of these areas. temperatures, winnipeg, a high of zero towards the north, chicago at 10. if we look at the east coast, a pair of 11s there in new york and washington, d.c. and then into europe, also continuing to watch a storm system push onshore across portugal and spain. as this does move overhead, it is already creating some high wind and heavy waves and even heavy rain warnings there in portugal, eventually into spain. then we'll watch this into the early part of the workweek on monday and tuesday. there could be some severe weather out there towards the central mediterranean and even over towards italy. you're already seeing some rough weather due to this low-pressure area pushing out across this area. we're seeing storm warnings in effect as this continues to move overhead and bringing with it heavy rain. north of it, though, look at these clear skies. one thing you

. it's moving onshore. heavy rain at that, through california. and actually a series of storms will bring days and days of rain with several inches of rain each day possible through the west coast. but look at the eastern half of the country, from the plains, all the way down into the southeast, up to the northeast, we are looking for a good deal of sunshine. but a closer look at some of the rain across san francisco, moving up into northern california. we will see pockets of heavy rain, and also some mountain snow. we could see several inches of mountain snow out that way through the course of the weekend, and into early next week. but across the east coast, we are going to see a lot of sunshine, temperatures topping out in the lower 50s, and then for your sunday forecast, basically a carbon copy of today, still pretty nice across the eastern half of the country, and still dealing with more heavy rains out west. alex? >> okay, dylan dreyer, many thanks for that. >>> beating the deadline. new confidence in washington about reaching a deal to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff. al

the worst weather is by far today. rain up and down the california coast line. across the middle of the country a little light snow in the dakotas. no big storm system anywhere to worry about. some rain showers out across parts of the florida peninsula. back here at home in the mid-atlantic nothing to worry yourself about for travel plans for this weekend as high pressure is in charge and this main area of high pressure will be in charge of our weather not just for today but all the way through at least the front half of the upcoming week. so nice and sunny today. clear skies through most of the overnight as well. then tomorrow that northeasterly wind starts to set up shop around here. a northeast wind means generally speaking more clouds than sunshine around here and i think that pattern will continue to build in more and more clouds as we get toward sunday night, monday, and tuesday. again, not a whole lot in the way of rain chances. so for today, then, on your saturday mostly sunny. a nice day outside today. temperatures still a touch cooler than average but not too bad. low t

through california, up into oregon, also up into portions of washington state. we're looking at about 5 inches of rain from now all the way through tuesday. we're also looking at measuring feet of snow through the mountains. so obviously the ski resorts out west will be enjoying this storm system. but it is going to bring perhaps some flooding rains to portions of the pacific northwest coast right down into california. so for your saturday, the eastern half of the country enjoying a whole lot of sunshine. for sunday kind of a repeat of today. we are going to see more showers and storms and gusty winds develop off the coast of the carolinas, the outer banks, just because of a storm system out that way. and again the rain will continue on the west coast from now all the way through at least next tuesday. it could even last that way through the upcoming holiday. alex? >> i'm just texting my friends in mammoth saying dylan says snow is coming your way. >>> let's make a deal, everybody. will we get a fiscal cliff agreement and will it include the president's wish for tax hikes on the rich. >
